At least 25 people were killed after the 5.8 –magnitude earthquake in Yingjiang,Yunnan

According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, at 12:58 p.m., on March the 10th 2011, an earthquake struck Yingjiang County in Yunnan province. The epicentre is located in Mingshi village of Pingyuan town. The Chinese seismologists said that the depth was at about 10 kilometres.

 

 

 

 

In the course of the last 2 months, Yingjiang has suffered over 1200 earthquakes.

 

The area’s buildings have been badly damaged. However, yesterday’s earthquake’s magnitude is greater than the other ones, and is estimated to bring an even more serious loss for the villages. The death toll is already 25, with 250 injured, 134 of them seriously. The quake toppled the homes of 1,039 families and seriously damaged nearly 5,000 others, mostly in the border town of Yingjiang. Local transportation and communications have been badly damaged.

 

China Christian Council has got in touch with Yunnan Christian Council to discuss how we as a Church can help in this crisis.  According to Pastort Shao LiLiang some churches have also collapsed.  China Christian Council is looking at how we can help the community hit by the earthquake in Yingjiang.
